The Story So Far
Borrowfield Coach House is a newly renovated property. We started the restoration of this beautiful coach house in 2018 and completed in 2020. It has come a long way since we started. Originally this was the coach house to a large mansion house which was identical to the sandstone building just behind us. The Denny brothers, well-known shipbuilders owned the two mansion houses. However during the second world war Cardross was bombed completely destroying one of the mansions along with numerous other properties in the village. This coach house is all that remains of the property on this side of the wall. In more recent years it became a derelict outbuilding with holes in the roof and trees growing inside. Thankfully it has been fully restored displaying its graceful, original exterior.
Knocking down
to build back up
All of the original upstairs hay loft flooring had to be removed as there was not enough height to stand up. The roof trusses were all rotten and too weak to salvage therefore the entire interior was knocked down leaving only the outer stone shell. Effectively we built a new build property within these stone walls.
